In general, external housings and the
internal centre stud are gravity die-cast marine grade, corrosion resistant
aluminium alloy or stainless steel. These are particularly
resistant to salt water and other environments. Larger
units are manufactured to order from coated mild steel, or stainless steel.
The magnets are manufactured from ferrite
metal in ceramic. They are magnetized such that the South Pole is on one
face (top) and the North Pole is on the other (bottom). The magnets are
stacked such that the North Pole of one magnet always faces the South Pole
of the adjacent magnet. This ensures that the magnets are attracting at all
times so that the magnetic field strength is maximised between them.
The magnet spacers are manufactured from
Acetyl M90 plastic. This type of plastic is particularly resistant to
environmental stress cracking and numerous chemicals usually associated with
diesel fuel. It is also capable of withstanding extreme temperatures.
The spacers have two functions with the
De-Bug Fuel Treatment Unit.
The first is to separate the magnets so that fuel passes between them at the
desired flow rate. The second is to act as flow directors so that the fuel
flows between the magnets and through the centre of the middle magnet in the
Tri-Mag stack. This is unique to the De-Bug fuel treatment unit and is one
of the reasons for the units effectiveness.
